Purple K - UL

Chemguard PK - UL, 92% Potassium Bicarbonate Based dry chemical,is a premium powder suitable for use in high-risk areas such as: refineries,chemical plants and airfields where superior fire extinguishing capabilitiesare of paramount importance.   It is suitable for use on either ClassB or C type fires.  Purple K is suitable for use as a recharge agent inmost manufacturers fire extinguishers that utilize potassium bicarbonate baseddry chemical powder. Airports have recognized the capability of “PK” and use itextensively in twin agent fire extinguishing systems.  It is also used inlarge “PK” dry chemical fixed systems covering LNG pumping stations. 

EXTINGUISHING MECHANISM

When “PK” dry chemical powder is used on fires involvingflammable liquids, it is generally accepted that when the powder is introduceddirectly into the fire area, it extinguishes the fire by interfering with thechemical chain reaction taking place in the combustion zone.

FOAM COMPATIBILITY

All Chemguard dry chemical powders are considered foamcompatible when used in conjunction with foam solutions generated by Chemguard.Manufactured foam concentrates such as AFFF, AR-AFFF, High Expansion,Supertrain and Class “A” foams.

STORAGE

Chemguard dry chemical powders are formulated so that they arenot affected by long-term storage.  As a general guide all Chemguard powdersare stable at low temperature down to -60ºF(-54ºC), with an upper storage limitof 120ºF(49ºC).
